Happy Wednesday AND National Almond Day! Yeah, I’m not sure who comes up with these things, but we’re still waiting for “National 18STRONG Day.”
Did you also know that there is a “Quitter’s Day?”
It’s January 19th. And it’s the day by which most people who set a New Year fitness goal end up quitting.
In other words, most people can stick to a goal for about 20 days. Regardless of when you declared it.
Today, let’s break that cycle once and for all.
Now, one of the MOST IMPORTANT reasons people give up on their goals:
They didn’t have a plan for when they slipped up.
And by slip up, I mean when they missed a workout, ate foods they weren’t “supposed to eat,” stayed up too late, or somehow “failed” to follow through with their plan.
Fact: Everyone slips up from time to time! (EVERYONE.)
Knowing ahead of time what to do AFTER it happens goes a long way toward making sure that one slip-up doesn’t turn into two or twenty.
A solid post-slipup plan will help you:
- Recognize WHY it happened
- Reevaluate your process to see if it needs to be changed
- Get back on-plan the following day (#nevermisstwice)
Here’s what I’m talking about:
Let’s say it’s a Thursday night and you’ve been doing GREAT all week. But as you are finishing up a long day of work, all you want is a cold beer.
If I know one thing…it’s really hard to get motivated after a few beers, so you skip your workout.
And you feel a little guilt after, right? It’s time to give up!
What if instead, you took a second to figure out WHY you didn’t follow your plan: i.e., “My willpower was low because I had a long, stressful day at work, plus I was tired. I’ve been going hard all week.”
And then once you realized the “why,” you reevaluated. Maybe you need to:
- Add a rest day to your workout week
- Keep a healthy ready-to-go meal at home
- Have a short and fun “off day” workout on standby with your favorite stress-busting exercises
Then, the next day, it’s time to get back on track, with your contingency plan in place.
Now instead of the guilt, you feel EMPOWERED because you’re bulletproofing your plan.
This is a PROCESS. What it looks like changes over time with the seasons, your schedule, your life, and your goals.
This is a BIG area we focus on with our clients – because the fact is, these are the moments having support can be make-or-break for your goals!
And why it is so easy to send us a message directly in the 18STRONG App. Not only do you have your step-by-step training program at your fingertips…you’ve got us!
In fact, it’s one of the main reasons WHY people join the membership in the first place.
An experienced coach can help you see the bigger picture and come up with solutions to keep you on track and moving FORWARD.
You’ve got this.
Your #1 Fan,
PS – “Quitter” may be a little harsh. And too meathead-ish. I would use “ill-prepared” when it comes to ending the pursuit of your goals.
If you need help preparing, then executing a plan, I highly recommend joining the 18STRONG App for free for the next seven days. And give it a test drive.
