💪 The “After-Burn” Effect

Good morning, my fellow Crew member. Speaking of, today is Live Crew & A day at 2p CST. Don’t miss it – it’s gonna be a good one as we talk shop about fat loss.

Now that our kids are heading back to school, the hot topic amongst the Crew, friends, and family is how we can quickly lose the few extra pounds that the extra beers and extra BBQ from the summer put on.

And I hear more people tell me, “I need to start running” than I care to think about. It makes me cringe every time someone says it to me. And it’s even worse when I see them running around the park by my house.

A decade ago, I would have told you that’s a great idea if you want to lose weight.

Today? I’m not on board.

Of course, if you get out there and go for a jog, it’s way better for you than doing nothing.

Something is always better than nothing.

But with cardio, you run into a lot of problems, not the least of which is starving after the slow burn of a cardio workout.

We’ve experimented with fat burning workouts for years. And we keep landing on the same answer:

Strength Training.

When you build muscle, you’re building a bigger engine. And like a gas-guzzling Hummer from the 90s, you burn more fuel.

Even when you’re not actively working out, you’re engine is always idling – meaning you’re burning more fat and calories even when you’re resting. That’s called the “After-Burn” Effect.

And it’s magical.

A study by the National Institute of Health showed that the After-Burn Effect can last for as long as 38 hours after your workout. So, you’re literally burning calories watching the SportsCenter.

On the other hand, when you stop your cardio workout, your calorie-burning engine also stops.

If you hate lifting weights and working out, and love cardio, then keep doing cardio. Like I said, something is better than nothing. And I’d never stop you from doing something you can sustain for the long haul.

But if lifting weights and/or body weight is your jam to lose fat, we built the Golfer’s Fat Loss Blueprint for you. And it’s currently sitting in the 18STRONG Membership just waiting for you to get started.

Moving forward, let’s continue to question what we’ve been taught. If they want us to zig, then let’s really think about zagging. Let’s embrace SIMPLE.

And most of all…let’s make it last.
