đź’Ş When was the last time?

It’s the first day of a short week following a great Labor Day weekend. The weather was a little on the rainy side, but we had a steady dose of soccer games, a wedding, and catching up with old friends.

Over the weekend, I also rediscovered Darius Rucker (the lead singer from Hootie and the Blowfish who has a great solo career in country music. So, one of my favorite songs he has a song with the refrain, “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”

If you’re in the car alone. And really think about the lyrics. It can send you down an infinite number of paths.

This time, it reminded me of a new client who signed up with us a few months ago because he noticed his fitness wasn’t what it used to be.

He KNEW he needed to do something. And rather than just letting “life happen”, he put on his big boy pants and decided to take control and do something about it.

But (he would totally agree with me on this), when he first started, he wasn’t that into it, even when I hauled out all my favorite “fun” coach tricks!

Getting his workout done was just another thing to check off his to-do list.

BUT … that all changed when one day we started talking about how the work he was doing in the gym was crossing over into his game. He hadn’t put it together yet, but then realized, “Holy s***, I have been hitting the ball farther. And I do feel looser on the course.”

I could see how excited he was getting, so we started focusing his workouts and habits on how it was improving his golf (without hitting a single ball)…and he was on FIRE!

This is the power of having a goal that gets you excited – of something that adds value and fun to your life. And has meaning!

What is ONE THING that’s a challenge for you – but that you’d LOVE to be able to do?

Let your mind go and come up with something fun.

It could be anything: Walk 18 holes. Add 20 yards to your drive. Look great in golf attire.

This is one of my favorite ways to turn new healthy habits into a real LIFESTYLE change… because these are the goals that directly impact your quality of life.

The trick is to choose things that get you FIRED UP and EXCITED…

Because this can spur you on to be more active…and open yourself up to POSSIBILITY.

Just like Hootie says, “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”

Today, just think about that.

Let your mind explore those “what ifs” that have been in the back of your head over the past couple of years.

Because if not now … then WHEN?

I’d love to hear about YOUR goals…
