Last night, I watched the Netflix documentary, “Reagan”.
Back in the 80s when he was the POTUS, I was still pretty young with zero interest in politics, so I was curious learn more about him.
I’ll let you judge the movie for yourself, but one scene really struck a chord with me.
Reagan and Gorbachev were negotiating to reduce nuclear weapons between the U.S. and Russia when Gorbachev said a version of this, “Mr. Reagan, your plan is complicated.”
To which Reagan’s response was, “Actually, it’s very simple…
But, it’s not easy.”
Truer words may have never been spoken.
And why it struck a chord with me is because that is the truth about our fitness.
It ain’t easy.
And I don’t mean the truth ain’t easy.
I mean whatever you want to do that is worth a darn…ain’t easy.
Wanna start your own 7-figure business? It ain’t easy.
Wanna lose 10 lbs? It ain’t easy.
Wanna be the best version of you as a spouse or parent? It ain’t easy.
Wanna be a scratch golfer. It ain’t easy.
Unfortunately, we confuse SIMPLE with EASY.
Following a step-by-step training program to get fit is really, really SIMPLE.
But, rolling up your sleeves and doing it ain’t easy.
Anytime we search for easy results with no effort, we are setting us up to fail.
And hey, I’m just as guilty.
We’ve been building 18STRONG since 2016. And we have spent more time than I care to add up on “push-button” programs that promise total BS.
And it was frustrating and miserable.
We were attracting the wrong kind of golfers (the tire-kickers).
So, for the past few years, we’ve leaned into the truth with everything we do.
You want to get in shape and play your best golf for the next 10, 20, 40 years?
Then be prepared to have your gut punched, your heart broken, and your confidence challenged.
It ain’t easy.
It’s not for everyone.
And I’m confident, it’s not for MOST.
Some are better off playing it “safe”. And not putting themselves out there (where failure is a very real option).
There’s no shame in that.
Otherwise, we’d all look and play great.
Our lesson today?
No matter your endeavor…
Never, ever run away from the truth.
Alright, I’ll leave you with that as great wisdom from a great decade.
STAY STRONG,
Jeff

It’s simple. BUT, it ain’t easy.
