Whatever gets you there will keep you there

Happy Wednesday! The US Open countdown has officially begun. And I’m feeling pretty great about my DraftKings team.

So, back in early January I was at a buddy’s kids’ hockey game and asked if he needed a cold one…”No man, I’m doing Keto.”

A few weeks later at a Super Bowl party, I asked another buddy if he needed one as I was digging a Studweiser out of my cooler…”No thanks, I’m off beer. I’m doing a super-low carb diet.”

Two weeks ago, I was at a pool party with both of those guys. And each one had gained back all of the weight (and I think a bit more) from their respective diets.

Why?

Because that lifestyle is not sustainable for most people. Can you imagine never having a delicious carb again?

Don’t get me wrong, you can lose a lot of weight quickly if you do either one of those diets, along with most other highly restrictive diets.

BUT, here’s one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever heard…

Temporary Actions Create Temporary Results

Whether you’re trying to lose weight, get into shape, have a better relationship with your spouse, etc., whatever you do to get you to your goal is the only thing that is going to keep you there.

Period.

We all tell ourselves: I’ll do XYX to get to where I wanna be, then I’ll taper it back.

“Yeah, I’ll quit drinking until I get to 170lbs. Then, I’ll just maintain.”

That strategy has worked for exactly zero people.

Instead, we need to change the way we think about how our goals. It’s not just a goal to be achieved, but a new way of living that we need to embrace.

Instead of short-term wins, we need to focus on sustainability over the long haul.

Instead of instant gratification, we need to pull our heads out of our a$$es, listen to our common sense, and focus on long-term results that are earned at a slower pace.

Because that is how we get off the roller coaster and live our best lives.

Alright, today was a little soap-boxy, but I’ve recently seen too many awesome people trying to “quick-fix” route. And it hurts me. Because I know how it’s going to end up.

Hope you’re not one of them.
