💪 Luke Skywalker’s mobility secret

Happy Star Wars Day!

“May the 4th be with you.”

I was never a huge fan, but our Co-Founder Ryan geeks out on it, so I have to acknowledge it to our Crew. And hey, this is a safe space with zero judgements. You do you.

Rumor has it that Luke Skywalker is an out-of-this-world golfer. With ridiculous mobility.

His secret is focusing on a particular area of the body. Stretching the area for two minutes. Then follows that with some intentional strengthening.

Here’s how the strengthening part works:

When you are at the end of your 2-minute stretch, you should feel relaxed. But you’ll also feel like you are at your max range of motion.

Now it’s time to build TENSION to get those muscles firing.

[Science-Talk Warning] Without moving from your stretched position, you’re going to ramp up into an isometric contraction of the exact muscles (muscle group) that you are stretching.

Yeah, that’s a little technical. But think of it as simply tightening up the muscles without changing the position you’re in.

For example, if you’re doing a hamstring stretch with your foot on a box (like in the video) you’re going to dig your heel into the box as if you were trying to get out of the stretch.

This teaches your body how to create tension in the new position.

Then, after holding for 10 seconds, you’re going to do EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE

I know this might be hard to picture. But we’ve got you covered…

Go watch the video. You’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.

It works because the contrast between tension in one direction, followed by tension in the other direction, allows you to go even further into your stretch.

Probably farther than you’ve ever pictured.

I know that got a little in the weeds. It’s hard to explain without a visual, so I would go take a look at the video to really understand why Luke Skywalker is so damn good at golf:)
