đź’Ş The Love-Hate Workout

This morning, I got a message that you never want to see, especially on Monday morning – “Hey Jeff, the 18STRONG website is down.” Great.

I got on the horn with the hosting folks, and it was up and running again in 30 minutes.

It was way too easy, so you know today is going to be a great day.

Yesterday, I talked about doubling down on our strengths. And I got some pretty darn entertaining replies like this from Andy:

Wise words, Jeff. And so true. Since I enjoy sleeping so much, I think I’ll just go back to bed!!!!!!!

Ah yes, well played Andy-man. Well played.

I know the idea of shifting your mindset from “just tell me what to do to get into shape” to “what will work for me” can feel confusing.

It takes some thought. And it takes being honest with yourself.

If you hate lifting weights, then don’t friggin’ do it. There are plenty of other ways to get fit – strength training just happens to be the most effective way to do it:)

I don’t like running. I know not to start a running program because it will make me miserable, and I’ll quit.

I enjoy strength training. If I didn’t, there would be no 18STRONG for other golfers who enjoy the same thing.

If yoga were my jam, Ryan and I would have started 18YOGA.

Exercise should be enjoyable.

Growing up, it was never a chore to go play soccer, basketball, roller hockey in the bank parking lot up the street, or to just ride our bikes.

Somewhere along the way, the world told us “No pain, no gain”, and all the fun we had as a kid being active went right out the window.

My challenge for you today – go do something active you love to do for at least 20 minutes.

This crazy fitness game is about choosing YOUR goals and finding a program YOU want. We are all different.

I choose strength training over endless cardio.

I choose golf-specific training over generic.

I choose to do what I love over the latest “miracle” workout.

While everyone else is losing sleep over whether they should do P90X or Daily Burn or Peloton…let’s enjoy what we’re doing. We’ll be the guys doing it when we’re in our 90s moving like we’re in our 60s or 70s.

Plus, how long until the Peloton ends up collecting dust in the garage?
