đź’Ş This makes me cringe

Happy Monday of my favorite week of the year.

Thanksgiving brings friends and family we haven’t seen all year out of the woodwork, and everybody behaves like we’re back in college.

And with the upcoming week sure to be filled with lots of family activities, I’ll keep this week hyper-focused on one of my favorite training topics:

Keeping It Simple

If you’ve been in the Crew for a while, this isn’t anything new, but Saturday, I had an interesting chat with my neighbor who just lost 18 lbs and got me thinking (uh oh).

For the past two and a half months, he did a program called 75 Hard. Our fellow, St. Louis fitness company, 1st Phorm, started it and I think it’s great.

In a nutshell, for 75 days you are required to do two workouts per day, stick to a diet of your choosing, cut out all booze, take a daily selfie and read 10 pages of a book every day.

It’s more of a mental program, but it obviously reaps a lot of physical benefits. It kinda sounds like a lot, but it’s very simple.

So, in total, my neighbor has lost about 60 pounds this year, so I asked him what else he had been doing.

And with a pretty embarrassed look on his face, he told me about one of the more popular fitness programs he did in the beginning of the year. You’ve definitely heard of it, but I don’t wanna be a hater.

Whenever I hear the name of the program, I cringe.

It went like this, “Yeah, at the beginning of the year, I tried [XYZ Mainstream Fitness Program], but it was so friggin’ impossible to follow. The workouts were ridiculous, my wife couldn’t cook like the nutrition guide wanted, and it totally sucked!”

That program lasted a whopping two weeks, then he switched to a revolutionary training program…

…he walked every day.

He told me that he finally took my 80-20 advice.

Meaning, he eats well 80% of the time, and walks at least 80% of his days.

He’s a bigger guy, and he’s not very toned, but good god, how can you argue with losing 60 lbs?

Now that he’s finished with 75 Hard, he’s going to start adding in some strength training. That’ll get him back to a more athletic body instead of his current “skinny fat” frame.

By next summer, he’s gonna look like he did in college.

Keeping it simple is a much easier way to approach your fitness than trying to get down to your fighting weight in the next 90 days…and way more fun.

It’s kinda like prioritizing long-term growth over short-term profits.

Imagine if you saw PXG clubs being sold at Costco. You bet they’d sell a boatload in a hurry and would have a huge influx of cash. But what about the long-term?

They’d burn out pretty quickly because they cheapened their brand.

So, when you’re thinking about those crash diets and miracle training programs, please take a step back and think about the long-term health of your “company.”
