💪 What is a “moderate” number of beers?

It was a little rainy to start the day, but it’s turned out to be a beautiful Wednesday here in the Netherlands. Or Holland. Or whatever these very hospitable Dutch folks prefer to call their motherland.

So, while I’m in a controversial city like Amsterdam with their lax laws on certain pleasures of the flesh, I’ve got some controversial news for you today – but hang with me!

“Moderation” is one of the biggest buzzwords in the health and fitness world right now.

But guess what?

It doesn’t work …

Because almost everyone does it wrong.

Here’s why…what looks like “moderation” to one person might be something completely different for someone else.

For food, your definition of “moderate” can depend on what you grew up eating, your current eating habits, or even your mood.

For workouts, your definition of “moderate” is going to be vastly different from that of a bodybuilder.

Rockstars think a 12-pack of brews each night is moderate. Your moderate may be a 12-pack lasts you a month, or six months, or a year.

Another great example: what’s a “moderate” amount of pizza?

If you asked 1,000 people, you’d come up with an entire pizza all the way down to one slice, to “I don’t eat that crap”.

(This isn’t even taking into account the “extras” people eat or drink with their pizza.)

Don’t take my word for it, all of this is backed up by science.

A major study from ScienceDaily found that when people ate according to the old saying, “everything in moderation,” they ended up with a less healthy diet than people who ate a smaller number of healthy foods.

PLUS: they ended up with bigger waists and a higher chance of developing diabetes.

So, how do you do moderation correctly?

It requires a focus on HEALTHY choices and habits – most of the time (80/20 Rule).

Which goes back to the Four Pillars Of Fitness & A Healthy Life I was talking about yesterday:

  1. Nutrition
  1. Regular exercise
  1. Sleep
  1. Rest

And that’s what we help you do in the 18STRONG Membership – find the “sweet spot” when it comes to what moderation means for you.
