Itâs only 23 days until Christmas, so itâs almost too late to run up to Toys R Us and get that Cabbage Patch Doll for your kids.
How old is that sentence?
So, this week weâve been talking about taking time for yourself to be active. Not just taking some time, but not compromising on that time because itâs so important that we move every single day.
Now, when I say âmoveâ, I donât mean you move from your couch to the bathroom and back.
Iâm talking about a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity like working out, walking, biking, row machining, basketball…whatever gets you up and motivated.
By the way, please donât let anybody talk trash about how riding in a cart isnât exercise. When we rode 18 at Sewanee in TN a few Fridays ago, I was wearing my GPS tracker, and I still walked almost 3 miles up and down those hills.
Add in 84 real swings, 100+ practice swings, and thatâs a lot of calories burned â probably close to 1,000. Hey, thatâs a bloody mary, a steak sandwich, and a steak sandwich on the Underhill tab.
Back to the point…
So, just out of curiosity, I went to the CDC website to see what their take on the benefits of physical activity are.
Since they have suddenly zipped their lips on the importance of being healthy and in-shape to help combat the severity of Covid symptoms, I didnât think Iâd find much.
I was wrong. I must have come across an old web page that slipped through the bureaucratic cracks.
Not sure I could have listed the benefits of moving every day any better:
- Weight Management
- Reduce your health risk for the main killers â heart disease, cancer, stroke, type 2 diabetes, etc.
- Strengthen your bones and muscles
- Increase your chances of living longer
And this might be my favorite on the list:
- Improve your ability to do daily activities
In other words, you lower your risk of âfunctional limitations.â
For example, letâs say youâre a golfer. You may feel tight. You may feel slower. You may feel like youâve lost distance.
You feel like your body is limiting your ability to play your best golf, right?
The fix?
Regular Physical Activity â aka GET MOVING every day.
My unsolicited advice today…letâs all keep keeping it simple.

PS â If youâre one of those golfers who wants to throw gasoline on the fire, then I think youâre going to enjoy the training programs in the 18STRONG App.
The programs are designed for the golfer who wants to get strong, in-shape, lose a few pounds, and wants that work in the gym or at-home to help them play their best golf.
Win â win.
