I was listening to the local, rock’n roll station this morning as I always do when I’m getting myself and helping get the kiddos ready.
Every morning, they have a March Madness-style bracket that puts the same artist’s songs against each other to ultimately see which is their biggest hit.
For example, they did a Led Zeppelin bracket with 64 songs. And each day, they would have one “game” between two songs to see which song would move on in the tournament. The songs are ranked, listeners vote online, and we find out the next day which song won. It’s pretty great.
Now, Led Zeppelin has a ton of hits, so the 64-song bracket took a few months. Less accomplished bands have smaller brackets, so they don’t take nearly as long.
By the way, Black Dog won the LZ bracket.
But as I was listening this morning to the new Styx bracket, the DJ chimed in and said that today is officially GivingTuesday.
I’d never heard of it, so I looked it up on the Google machine. It began in 2012 as a social media initiative to encourage people to do good.
Nothing wrong with that.
I bring it up because I want to challenge you to do something selfish today.
Stick with me…
We talk to thousands of golfers every year who know they need to make a change.
And more often than not, their biggest challenge is not having enough time.
Here’s part of the problem:
We grew up in a generation that still believes that men should take care of business.
We put our careers, families and so many other things before ourselves.
Despite what the annoying loud minority would have you believe, that’s the way it should be.
But, we sometimes take it too far.
If we don’t take the time to take of ourselves, we’re ultimately letting everyone down. None of us are any good if we’re 6 feet under.
So today, my challenge is to do something good for yourself.
Get moving. Get to the gym. Do something active that is going to help keep you around for a long time so you can continue to take care of business.
You’ve got this.
