Sara was working for a company called Danka, selling fax machines door-to-door.
It wasn’t a glamorous job, but she was very good at it.
It offered a good, steady paycheck.
It gave her room for advancement and more future income.
Deep down, Sara knew she wasn’t passionate about her work.
And dreamed of starting something of her own.
One day, she had an idea…
…footless pantyhose that smoothed the body and didn’t show through clothing.
You know, something all of us male golfers can relate to:)
Although her family and friends were skeptical, she became obsessed with the idea.
At 27, she left her cushy, stable career to pursue her dream full-time.
Of course, she struggled in the beginning.
And questioned her decision.
Her first big break came from a buyer at Neiman Marcus who agreed to stock her product in their stores.
Next, she received the ultimate endorsement from Oprah.
And the rest is history.
Sara Blakely started Spanx, and is now a billionaire (yes, with a B).
I first became aware of her as one of the guest hosts on Shark Tank.
And loved her story.
So, why am I channeling my inner Paul Harvey story telling this morning?
We need to ask ourselves, “Are we choosing comfort where discomfort is called for?”
Can we chase uncomfortable in 2025?
When we strength train, we force our muscles to get uncomfortable by lifting heavier and heavier weight – they respond by growing and adapting.
If we use food/booze as a coping mechanism, addressing our relationship with either (or both) can be uncomfortable.
When we have uncomfortable conversations, we can finally deepen our relationships or stand up for the things that are important to us.
Let’s get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Now, I’m not saying you need to quit your job today or go all-in on a new goal or change.
But, it’s worth asking yourself that uncomfortable question.
Life can be hard.
Change can be harder.
Uncomfortable.
Scary.
Messy.
But, if we’re willing to say NO to comfort, it might be exactly what we need.
STAY STRONG,
