It’s Wednesday, which means we’re less than 48 hours to MGF (Mandatory Golf Friday), my cousin’s freshmen soccer game Friday afternoon, a Halloween party on Friday night, an adult birthday party at the local winery Saturday afternoon and evening, then kids’ sports on Sunday.
Sounds like a lot, but I love it.
My son Sam is heading to high school next year, so we’re getting to that strange age when the friends we’ve made with his grade school parents are heading in different directions. I sometimes sit back and wonder who we’ll still be friends with in the next year or two.
It’s a little sad, but it’ll shake itself out.
Like I’m sure you do, I’ve got friends that I can not see for years, see them, and not miss a beat. We just pick up where we left off. I bet you’re thinking of a few of those buddies right now. Love those dudes.
Unfortunately for all of us, our muscles don’t work that way. According to numerous studies I’ve read throughout the years, we start to lose strength in just 2-3 weeks of stopping our training. As time goes on, the more loss we see.
“Is it true, if you don’t use it, you lose it?” – Steve Carell in 40-Year-Old-Virgin
While he was wrong in his thinking about “it”, we do lose muscle when we stop working them.
But, don’t be frustrated.
If you’ve let yourself go (as we all have at times), studies also show that we gain back muscle and strength more quickly if we’ve had a history of regular exercise. Our muscle memory kicks and we’re back at it before we know it.
I bring that up because I see to many guys tell themselves, “It’s too late.” BS! It’s never too late.
If you were an athlete in the past (like 99% of us golfers), it’s easier than Joe Blow on the street to get into shape.
No, it’s not easy. It’s work. But you’ve got it in you. You did it when you were younger.
We created GB2 – Activate for those golfers looking to get back into shape. More importantly, we’re here for you so that you stay in shape, so you’ll never have to start again.
There’s no better time than the present to re-boot yourself.
You’ve got this.
Your #1 Fan,
Jeff Pelizzaro
PS – GB2 – Activate is an 8-week plan that maps out all of your workouts. You’ll have strength days, movement days, speed training days (which is a fancy way of saying you’ll get more distance), posture days, and of course, rest days.
You may be tempted to skip the rest days because you’re seeing such awesome results and you want to keep pushing, but don’t. Our bodies need to recover to grow and strengthen our muscles.
