Inner talk

Yesterday, a group of nine lunatic golfers set out to walk 100 holes of golf for Youth On Course – a charity to help grow our crazy sport by helping to subsidize kids who can’t afford the fees to play for $5 at some great courses around town. As the golf fitness guys, we decided we needed to set the example, and 100 wasn’t enough. So, we vowed to play a nice round 108 holes (18 holes X 6 rounds = 108 holes). Here’s what it looks like after 108 holes, 14-ish miles, 30,000 + steps, 300+ strokes, 8 hours of walking, and countless 1stPhorm protein sticks, protein bars, and hydration drinks:
It sounds crazy, but it was a blast. And we’re going to turn it into a regular event. Eight hours on the course gives a guy some time to think… One of the many things I realized, especially when doing something physically challenging, is the words we use shape our reality. What are the words you’re using in your head? Because a small shift can make a big difference. It sounds like a small thing, but I’ve started replacing “problem” with “challenge”. Here’s why: A problem drains your energy. A challenge gives you a jolt of energy. One is destructive. The other is constructive. Which would you have a better chance of success: 1) 100-Hole Hike Problem 2) 100-Hole Hike Challenge Of course, we all want to rise to the “challenge”. Simple changes like changing our inner dialogue compound over time. They’ll change our approach to obstacles – which dictates our results. STAY STRONG, Jeff PS – We didn’t have time to stop for a meal, so I cannot thank 1stPhorm enough for keeping us fueled for 8 hours. They’ll be the first to tell you there is no substitute for a healthy meal, but these jalapeno protein sticks are the greatest golf snack I’ve had (the breakfast sausage flavor is also pretty legit).
