Lean and stiff, or bulky and loose?

Yesterday, I ran into a soccer buddy I hadn’t seen in awhile, who clearly has kept himself together.

He’s in his late 40s, is lean and strong.

But, he told me his body feels terrible when he plays golf.

And I realized I fell into the same trap I repeatedly tell anyone who will listen not to do.

When you see a lean guy with low body fat %, I guarantee you assume that he is mobile (I sure did).

Even though he may be stiff as a statue.

When you see a bulky, muscular dude, it’s even easier to assume that he is tight as a drum.

And could never touch his toes.

Neither may be true.

Mobility and strength have far less to do with how your body looks than you may think.

The truth is that it has a lot to do with what exercises you’re doing, and what plan you’re following.

The first time I tried a squat with rotation, it sounded like I was popping popcorn with all my creaks and cracks.

Same thing doing neck rotations.

It sounded like I was cracking my knuckles, which is a very uncomfortable sound coming from your neck and spine.

At that point, I looked like I was in good shape.

And I was.

Just not for golf.

The reason I wasn’t mobile wasn’t because of what shape I was in.

It was a bunch of reasons like:

1. I never trained for mobility, so my brain-body didn’t know what to do

2. I lacked strength in the range-of-motion I was doing

3. My nervous system couldn’t relax because it was protecting me from injury

You can probably guess that the key to a loose, but still-in-control swing is the opposite of the above.

The key is to move those joints that we need on the course – neck, shoulders, hips, ankles, etc.

You will be amazed how much easier your swing is when you get those “golf areas” greased up.

I went from stiff and creaky to limber and loose.

And I’ve never looked back.

You can start to experience the same with the Daily Motion EFD in the 18STRONG Membership.

It’s a great jumping off point since it’s only 5-7 mins per day.

STAY STRONG,
