Obsess over actions NOT results

This morning (Mandatory Golf Friday) I leaned over to a friend as we were walking down the fairway and I said, “Is there anything better than golf on a Friday morning with buddies?”

It’s definitely up there.

We get so obsessed with golf cuz we get to be athletic and competitive with our buddies…in a great way.

Now, there is a dark side to that…

A lot of times, we tend to obsess over our results – especially golf and fitness.

Things like:

  1. Jumping on the scale every day
  2. Repeatedly checking your GHIN (it hasn’t changed since your last round:)

Here’s the problem:

Obsessing over those things doesn’t actually change them.

You’re just watching a number – without having any effect on it.

Even worse – when those numbers start going the wrong direction – you get emotional about them…

Which leads to poor decision-making – usually because of impatience.

Instead – obsess over the actions that lead to those results:

  1. Workout X times each week, every week
  2. Hit the range X times each week, every week

By obsessing over the right actions – you’ll have an effect on the results you’re after.

And you’re less likely to get sidetracked because of your emotions.

Now, get out there and play! After all, it’s Friday.
