The secret is there are no secrets

Welcome to the opening day of the NFL! Truth be told, without fantasy football and talking trash to my buddies, I probably wouldn’t care.

But, as it turns out, I’m really interested in whether or not Travis Kelce is going to play tonight – what does “questionable” mean anyway?

In any event, here’s an unrelated, true story for you this morning:

One of the best micro-breweries here in St. Louis is called Civil Life. It’s been a minute since we’ve been, but the owner is a great dude, and extremely great brewer named Jake Hafner who makes the best ales in town. And once, he explained to me why his brews are so good compared to many others.

For example:

  • How he does everything old school still (doesn’t stray from the fundamentals).
  • How he’s a student of not just ales, but of all varieties of beer (knows the history of the industry).
  • How he often travels to Europe to study the old masters (always learning, looking for one idea, insight, tip, strategy that he can incorporate into his brewing).

He also said something that I’ll never forget:

“The trick is there are no tricks”

Yes, he was talking about brewing beer.

BUT, it’s just as true for fitness.

What’s important is the fundamentals.

The fundamentals are what makes or breaks the brew.

Yes. Skill, knowledge, passion, ingredients, climate, etc. are all important.

But, fundamentals are the absolute key.

So it goes with golf fitness:

Fundamentals are the key.

If you have the basics down, you don’t need fancy equipment, a trainer looking over your shoulder every rep, or a specialized program.

The fundamentals forgive a lot of workout and training sins.

The reason:

For us human golfers (not the super-human Tour players), we only need to work on the 99% that is going to make a difference. Rory is trying to dial in the final 1% in an effort to shave half a stroke per 4-day tournament…that ain’t us.

It’s primarily about how to take advantage of the basics (push, pull, rotate, hinge, squat). But in order to do that, you have to know when, where, and how to apply them.

That’s where I believe our training shines.

We’ve done our best to answer the most common request I get from golfers…

“Just tell me what to do.”

So, either you’re ready to start using the fundamentals to your advantage or you’re not.

No big deal either way.

If you do, and if you want to start your 7-day trial, you can do so for a little longer (we’re revamping our entire offerings).
