Yesterday, I totally flaked and didn’t notice until around noon that we are already in August. When did that happen?
My kids are going to be starting school again, and my son will be driving this year (I don’t know if you heard it, but that was the sound of my you-know-what puckering:)
But before my car insurance skyrockets, let’s get to the highly polarizing subject of WHEN is the best time of the day to work out.
The answer may surprise you, but it is: Whenever.
Huh?
Whenever it fits for you. There is no definitive “when to work out.” No one-size-fits-all time.
Now, I’ve read too many opinions about this to count, and there probably is an optimal time for your workout that may give you a 0.5% bump in performance, but that level of minutiae is best left for the high-level bodybuilding crowd, not us.
For me, done is better than perfect.
It’s whenever you choose to do it, based upon when you’re ready to rock. Pick a time. And be consistent about it.
For me, it’s a little more difficult to pick a time because I have clients in and out of the gym at different times every day. BUT, each day I am consistent when I work out.
Today, I’ll work out before lunch. Fridays I work out around 2p. That’s what works with my schedule.
The key takeaway is that YOU figure out how to fit YOUR workout into YOUR schedule. You do it when YOU want to do it, not when some fitness guru tells you is the “optimal” time.
Keep it simple.
There are 24-hour gyms for a reason. It all depends on the person. But there is one constant in all of this…
Get your workout in, one way or another. Tell yourself, “The training is going to get done.”

PS – There are 24 hours in a day. You sleep 8. You work 8. So, you’ve got 8 more to get it done. Time is not an excuse.
If you haven’t joined us non-excuse-makers in the 18STRONG Membership yet, then I would get the party started today. Find the program that matches your goal, then just do the work. It’s that simple (and rewarding).
