Last night, I started watching a documentary series on Netflix (that shall remain nameless) about an identical twins study, and how their bodies would react after 8 weeks following two very different diets.
Pretty cool premise, right?
The first episode was interesting, then, before I knew it in episode 2, they were showing sensationalistic pictures of the earth on fire because of the global warming effect of cows’ methane release and eating meat.
Now, it doesn’t matter to me what your politics are.
You and I will never agree on everything, but I will defend your right to your own opinion.
My wife Sue is my best friend in the world…by a LARGE margin. And she and I don’t agree on everything.
I was more annoyed that they chose to overshadow a very useful study to push their vegetarian/vegan agenda.
Clearly, the outcome of the study was pre-determined, so I couldn’t trust the findings, which is a huge waste.
The challenge is that more information is a mixed bag.
Of course, we should keep educating ourselves.
BUT…
Social media, print media, TV media, streaming, are all optimized for one goal…
Keep your attention as long as possible.
The longer we watch = the more ad revenue.
So, how do we know what is real and what is just another unscrupulous company trying to sell XYZ?
When it comes to our health and fitness, here are 5 rules I follow:
1. There are undeniable basics: We should eat a balanced diet that keeps us in a range for our ideal macros – e.g. calories, protein, carbs, fats.
If we want to lose weight, we need to burn more calories than we eat – strength training is very helpful.
2. The burden of proof is on “them”: Anybody can say anything online. And it’s up to THEM to prove it, not for us to disprove it.
Take astonishing claims with a grain of salt – if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
3. Stop following anybody who tells us to stop eating certain foods or ingredients: There’s a “magic” supplement about to be pitched.
4. Stop following people who bring you down: Give your attention to people who lift you up.
5. Medical issues need medical professionals.
That’s it.
If it doesn’t pass the smell test, there’s a reason.
Our goal is to always give it to you straight.
And here’s the straight poop:
We all have to put in the work.
No exceptions.
STAY STRONG,
Jeff
