The Former Athlete Problem

Yesterday, the USMNT’s World Cup roster was officially released.

Brings me back to my younger days of playing soccer for all those years and into college.

Sounds crazy, but I think I’ve still got it.

If you’re like me, you probably don’t think of yourself as older.

Yeah, the calendar has flipped a few times, but I’m still as good as ever, right?

And as far as our performance goes, “old” is not really the issue.

The issue is that your body keeps giving you little reminders that something has changed.

You step onto the first tee and feel stiff for the first six holes.

You get done with a round and feel more beat up than you should.

You know the shot you want to hit, but your body doesn’t always cooperate the way it used to.

That’s the frustrating part.

Because mentally, you still feel like the same guy.

You still picture yourself moving well.

Competing.

Being capable.

Athletic.

But somewhere along the way, life slowly pulled you away from the things that kept you feeling that way.

  • Less movement.
  • Less explosiveness.
  • Less reaction.
  • Less playing.
  • Less training with purpose.

And eventually you start feeling the disconnect between who you still are internally, and who actually shows up physically.

That’s the Former Athlete Problem (just a working title for now).

The good news is athleticism isn’t gone forever.

Most guys just stopped training for it.

If you want to start feeling athletic again, instead of just “less out of shape,” check out the 18STRONG Membership

That’s exactly what we’ve been helping golfers rebuild.

STAY STRONG,

Jeff
