Well, the streak is over. Our annual, 8-mile trail run happening this Saturday that I’ve been doing for close to 10 years has been cancelled for me due to a calf injury I got running yesterday. The worst part? I felt great on the trail, then literally 4 steps onto the pavement…and my calf said, “No mas.” It’s a minor “injury”, but does reinforce that running on flat ground stinks. While I was doing therapy on my calf, I was thinking about a conversation I had with my brother-in-law last year about the goals he had for 2024. “You’re all over the board. You have all these goals, but it’s overwhelming. There’s too much stuff, and your “what I want” isn’t clear. I don’t even know where to tell you to start.” So, as we’re thinking about our goals in 2025, our outcomes must be crystal clear. Please stop saying any version of these: “I wanna get into shape.” “I wanna be better at golf.” “I wanna hit the ball farther.” Those are NOT goals. Those are dreams. Goal Setting 101 requires that your goals be specific. Otherwise, you’ve already failed. Make it simple. “I want to lose 18 lbs by St. Patrick’s Day.” “I want to add 15 yards by our spring golf trip.” “I want to wear a 32 waist by spring break this year at Daytona Beach.” You’ll also notice, I’ve not only been specific on the goal… But, also put a deadline on it. Which is very important because we’re then able to reverse engineer our goals. Let’s keep the math simple: 12 weeks divided by a goal of losing 12 lbs means you have to lose 1 lb per week. No big deal. Kinda takes the pressure off, doesn’t it? And you can do that with just about any goal out there – it just may require some extra thought. When you join the 18STRONG Membership group, we can help you create a simple plan that only requires you to execute it. We’re gonna teach you how to fish. Alright, I’ve gotta run. This calf strain is super annoying, so I’m going to treat my therapy like the Olympics are next week. STAY STRONG, Jeff PS – Just because I am not a fan of running, please don’t let it discourage you if you enjoy it. We’d much rather have you do something, than nothing. Now if you’re like me, and working out in the gym to improve on the course is your jam, then we’ve got you covered in the 18STRONG Membership. |
