So, the total length of Augusta is around 7,400 yards, which is about 4.25 miles.
Obviously, the golfers don’t walk in a straight line from tee to green, so the typical walk is 6-7 miles per round.
For me, you can safely double it as I’m sure I’d spend most of my day walking back and forth across the greens like a crazy person as my putts repeatedly slipped off.
So…Walking.
It still remains one of the best forms of exercise we can do every day.
So, I’m asked all of time some version of this question, “Walking can’t possibly burn a lot of calories, right?”
Oh, don’t discount the power of walking.
Our buddy Will over at 1stPhorm wrote a great article about the benefits of walking and calories, cleverly titled:
How many calories does walking burn?
He’s a real wordsmith:)
In the article, he talks about the three main factors of calories burned…
- Distance
- Weight
- Pace
And has a handy breakdown to show you how many calories you’re burning based on those three things.
I highly recommend you check it out.
If you get one thing out of me this week, it’s to not discount the value of walking.
STAY STRONG,
Jeff

PPS – Tour golfers at Augusta’s hard-to-see-on-tv hilliness will typically burn around 1,000 calories per 18.
