Good Friday afternoon! How about Rickie yesterday?
Let’s hope his T1 is not short-lived.
But, you what is short-lived?
Tactics.
One day, they’re driving results for your fitness.
The next, they’ve disappeared like a thief in the night.
This puts your fitness on a roller coaster.
At times, things are great and you’re heading in the right direction.
Other times, you’re back where you started wondering where it all went wrong.
Principles, on the other hand, are timeless.
If you understand the principles of fitness, you’ll be able to achieve long-term results.
Here’s an example of principles vs. tactics.
Tactic:
“Hack” your weight loss by keeping your daily calories below 1,500.
You will definitely lose weight (notice I said “weight”, not fat).
But after awhile, your will-power fades, your body takes over, and you gain back all the weight – usually more.
Principle:
Eat healthy, whole foods 80-90% of the time and exercise 5-7 times per week to lose fat.
Over time, your relationship with food will change. You will lose fat. You will effortlessly maintain.
This principle is as true today as when the cavemen roamed the earth.
Focus on the principles that form the foundations of any trendy tactic.
Do this, and you’re on a different playing field than most of the population.
While everyone is chasing the next shiny object and focused on the latest “tactic of the day”, your principles-first approach is driving sustainable performance.
Month over month.
Year over year.
While everyone else is playing checkers, you’re playing chess.
Now, have a great weekend!
