đź’Ş Think small. Not big.

It’s Friday and I’m less than 10 hours from my life coming full circle. My son Sam is a freshman at my alma mater (St. Louis University High School – SLUH) and tonight is the first mixer of his career. 1,200 boys and girls trying to awkwardly meet each other.

For us, it was the unofficial start of our high school social lives. Boy, those times were so awesome and simple.

Speaking of simple, let’s take a step back for a minute.

We’re constantly told to “think big”. You can go on the Google machine and buy 1,000 motivational posters with some version of that.

But, what if the opposite were true? Maybe we need to think small instead of big.

It’s easy to get distracted by new, bold strategies. (Especially if you’re not getting the results you hoped for.)

Instead, ask yourself how you can improve your EXECUTION on what you’re already doing.

By improving your execution, it’s possible to unlock massive growth.

For example, I worked with a client who was trying to lose fat, but wasn’t happening as fast as he wanted, so he would make drastic changes to speed up his results.

He would consistently lose half a pound a week. But then he would drastically reduce his calories for a week, lose two pounds, then fall off the unsustainable wagon right back to where he started.

But then he took a step back. And focused on the execution of his consistent (but “slow”) lifestyle that was giving him results.

Well, after making a few tweaks like cutting out 2-3 beers on Sundays, skipping breakfast a few days a week, and adding in a long walk here and there, he started losing about a pound a week.

All because he improved his execution. Not because he found the non-existent miracle cure.

So, before you abandon what might be working. Or trying something drastic. Ask this question:

How can I get the most out of what I’m already doing?
