Happy first day of the Memorial Tournament! 38 of the top 50 players are in Dublin for Jack’s event, and it’s going to be entertaining as all get out.
I have yet to play Muirfield, but many a buddy said it is fantastic. So, it’s definitely on my list.
So, we talk a lot about injury-prevention around these parts, but the story I read this morning is bats*** crazy.
During the second round of the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk earlier this week (man, Scottsdale has so many awesome places to play), one of Oregon’s golfers, Greg Solhaug, was injured in a way I had never dreamed possible.
My cousin had a tree branch fall on his tent while he was camping that required surgery, but this is even crazier.
As Greg Solhaug was walking off the #10 tee box, he stepped on a wooden tee that went through his shoe and into his foot. What? Yes, you read that correctly.
A wooden golf tee shivved him like a prisoner at Alcatraz. Bizarre.
He stuck it out and finished 10, but had to withdraw because apparently, it’s painful to walk around a golf course after having just been stabbed in the bottom of your foot.
So today, let’s talk about how to strengthen your feet so that never happens…
…totally kidding.
That is just one of those freaky things you can’t avoid.
However, I get asked this quite a bit, “Jeff, what is the best way to stay injury-free?”, my answer is always the same…
GET STRONG.
Of course, nothing is going to keep you 100% safe, but getting stronger is kinda like wearing a seatbelt.
Accidents are going to happen, but strength drastically reduces the risk of injuries.
So, in closing, feel better Greg Solhaug. Do something to get stronger today. And enjoy the best players in the world put on a show this weekend.
