A disturbing trend

It’s Thursday morning. And time to roll up our sleeves.

First off, today’s Live Crew & Call has been postponed until next Thursday. On the call next week, I’ll let you know what was so important – you’re gonna love it:)

Second, I’m starting to see a disturbing trend in not only our industry, but businesses across the world. If you haven’t been paying attention, the world is currently obsessed with AI.

The uses are infinite – both good and bad. The disturbing thing I’ve been noticing is how companies are using AI for customer service, writing emails, writing websites, etc. Basically, most customer interactions.
I’ve been playing around with ChatGPT – the AI platform that can help you write pretty much anything you want. It’s all anybody can talk about.

The best description I’ve heard so far is that it’s kinda like a calculator for writing. And it’s gonna revolutionize the world!

Now, when calculators hit the mainstream, the sky was falling for math people. But, it turns out you still need to know what numbers to enter to find the answers you want.

I’m perpetually curious about most things, so 20 minutes ago, I typed this into ChatGPT:

create a 300 word email about the number one reason strength is the most important physical attribute for golfers

Here’s what it spit out:

Dear [Recipient],

Strength is an important component in developing power and accuracy. Working on building core strength will help you hit longer drives and more accurate shots. Additionally, strengthening small muscles throughout the body will provide more stability and consistency within your swing plane – ensuring each shot lands exactly where you want it to.

The number one reason why strength is so important is that it allows you to control your flight better than ever before. Focusing on strengthening key muscles throughout your body gives you more control over how far and fast each shot goes – allowing for maximum precision when lining up each shot.

Moreover, regular strength training ensures that fatigue does not become an issue during a round; giving you an edge over other players who have yet to develop their physical capabilities on the links.

Are you still with me?

That is so boring. And so painful to read.

Just know that if you ever see me use the word “moreover”, I’m either being sarcastic, or I’ve given up on writing emails and stopped caring:)

While I agree with a lot of what the machine is saying, I hate where a lot of companies are going with this.

But at the same time, I love it.

The giant companies run by Wall St. with the financial burden of stockholders to increase profits every single quarter will still do what they do…for awhile.

BUT, the companies that have a soul are going to rise to the top.

I’m not exactly sure where I was going when I started writing. I’ve just been reading about this so much, and have had a number of people approach me with “a better way” to talk to our Crew, I wanted to give you our take.

Here it is:

Please know that we give a s*** about our Crew.

We may not be the best fit for you. In fact, we’re not a fit for most golfers.

But at the end of the day, we have your best interest at heart.

And that’s all I have to say about that.
