Welcome to 18STRONG “After Hours” where health and nutrition are always on our minds.
So, my energy level today was quite a bit different than my level the Monday following Thanksgiving.
We had family living with us for four days.
I indulged in some of the food trappings.
I indulged in some of the booze trappings.
And by Sunday and Monday, I was completely out of gas.
Which many times is how I feel after a workout.
Let’s say I’m doing a workout with four sets.
On those days I’m not “feeling it”, the 3rd and 4th sets can be a struggle.
So, to get through them, I channel my inner David Goggins and push to exhaustion.
Which is not the way we recommend working out – mainly because it’s not very enjoyable.
But, it’s also not necessary.
So, following a tough-to-get-through workout, I started noticing that my post-workout protein shake was giving me a noticeable boost of energy.
Then, after every workout, I noticed a little shot of energy.
Which is super-helpful when you’ve got the rest of the day/evening to be a functioning human being.
So, upon a little research, the materials in the post-workout shake not only determine the quality of muscle built, but also determine the rate of muscle repair.
The faster the recovery, the better.
And the protein shake I drink promotes a quick rate of repair.
Which is what gives me a little boost.
Now, I’m not saying it’s like drinking a Red Bull, but it is definitely noticeable – and certainly better for us than an energy drink.
It’s just a nice little bonus from my recovery shake.
Hit ‘em straight,
Ryan
PS – Here is the recovery protein shake I drink.
I prefer to the two milkshake flavors (chocolate and strawberry), but I’m a simple man.
It’s from 1st Phorm, here in St. Louis.
A few months ago, we got to tour their facility. And it is unbelievable.
Almost made us want to get real jobs…almost:)
