Big Pharma is at it again

Happy Wednesday, my fellow if-it-were-easy-everybody-would-be-fit, non-delusional golf nut. Oh yeah, I ran across a disturbing story that’s got me fired up this afternoon.

And the culprit, of course…Big Pharma.

Do you remember back in 1998 when a little blue pill called Viagra flooded the market? It was originally used to treat high blood pressure and heart disease, but when patients noticed the “other” side effect, Pfizer quickly pivoted. To the tune of about $1.8 billion every year.

Fast forward 25 years and we’re now introduced to Ozempic (there are some others, but that’s become the most popular), an injectable diabetes treatment.

Well, there’s a side effect: appetite suppression.

In other words, it’s yet another “miracle” weight loss drug on a long list of BS. Again, this one is an injection, which I think is bat s*** crazy for a weight loss drug.

In any event, the “experts”, most of whom are in Big Pharma’s back pocket, are projecting the $1k/month treatment could make upwards of $20B per year!

Now, weight loss drugs and supplements are nothing new. They come and they go. And for the most part, nobody gets hurt (or loses weight).

BUT, this time I’m worried.

Never before has an industry as powerful as Big Pharma put this kind of effort towards a weight loss drug.

They run the studies. They determine what information gets out. They decide when profits are big enough that it’s okay to kill a few (thousand) people.

Our world is about to be flooded with ads, news stories, Super Bowl commercials, and billboards about the latest “miracle” weight loss treatment.

You thought watching every other commercial being about erectile dysfunction during The Masters was bad…just wait for this onslaught of BS.

So Jeff, what’s your point?
