“F” is for mobility?

Here’s a bit of trivia to get your noodle moving this beautiful Thursday morning…What do you call it when people use the brand name instead of the product it is?

Brands like Kleenex, Chapstick, Band-Aid, Q-Tip, etc.It sounds like a crime against humanity, but that phenomenon is actually called, “genericide”. No kidding. The reason I bring it up is because golfers tend to do the same thing with flexibility. It has become a catch-all for a loose and limber feeling swing.BUT, what we’re really after is…MOBILITYHere’s the difference:Flexibility is how far you can move with an outside force.  So, imagine touching your toes, then I push on your back and, with my help, you reach even lower.Mobility on the other hand, is how you move without any outside help (which you never have swinging a club).

So, now that I’ve set the record straight, how do you get that elusive swing that feels effortless because you feel so loose and free? It’s very simple.Just move every single day.Get your joints moving – your neck, wrists, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, trunk.Doing that does two things: 1) gets your body producing more “oil” for your joints (called synovial fluid), and 2) gets that “oil” moving all around your joints so they are completely greased.

The result is a “flexible” feeling, and a loose, limber and free swing. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to prepare for a meeting with a buddy about a physical product I’ve been wanting to produce. But more on that later.Your #1 Fan,
