[How To] Easiest way to injure yourself

Completely off-topic, last night I watched the making of Caddyshack again (Caddyshack: The Inside Story) and it never disappoints.

If you haven’t yet, give it a shot.

So if you’ve been following us for any time, we talked about how it’s not a great idea to work out like a professional golfer.

Like Olympic power lifters, they are elite athletes who have very different goals in the gym.

It’s kind of a hard pill to swallow when you see the vast majority of golfers on Tour(s) now playing out of their heads.

And NOT want to do exactly what they’re doing in the gym.

Here’s the thing:

You have choices.

Lots of choices.

More choices than you’ve ever had before.

Overwhelm isn’t just creeping in, we’re in full-blown overwhelm overdose.

Which is why we continue to recommend SIMPLE.

Purposely taking complexity out of your fitness.

Focusing on the basics and habit-building that always work.

As a physical therapist, I have seen far too many injuries to prescribe anything other than SIMPLE to my clients…unless they are professionals whose lives and days are devoted to tiny, incremental improvements.

Our co-founder Ryan jacked-up his shoulder a few years ago doing a bulking program from one of the more popular trainers online.

I took a look at the program and told him he was an idiot (I promise not to tough love you if you have a question:).

The program had him doing advanced, Olympic moves.

He’s fine now, but it took 8-10 months.

Now if you ask him about that, he’ll tell you, “Never again!”

It pains me when I see so many golfers (and people in general) make the mistake of complex workouts.

By the way, Ryan has been lifting for years.

If he got hurt, what chance do novices have of not injuring themselves?

Too many programs out there are designed to give you what you want (to train like the pros) – not what you need.

We all want to hit the ball farther.

Better balance.

Better mobility.

Better injury-resilience.

Especially for golfers, what we really need is to start by simply moving.

Then we incorporate strength training, and start building small nutritional habits.

Then magically, your scores go lower, lower, lower.

Start small.

Keep it simple.

And stay consistent.

THAT is the “secret”.

While everyone else struggles to stick to their programs because it’s too much, too fast, and impossible to stick to – YOU know better.

Just being here makes you smarter than the average bear.

SIMPLE. SIMPLE. SIMPLE.

STAY STRONG,

Jeff

PS – To drive the point home…if you still like to shoot hoops with your buddies in pick-up games, would it even cross your mind to train like LeBron?

Today, I would get that “train like the pros” out of your vocabulary.

And replace it with SIMPLE.

Once you do that, you can get all of the tools you need in the 18STRONG Membership.

I highly encourage you to join today.
