The Most Underrated Activity That Always Gets Results

Yesterday’s email was all about your starting line.

In other words, the answer to this question:

“Jeff, I know I’m outta shape, but where do I start?”

The answer is always the same:

MOVE.

But I want to take a step back even further and talk about one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways we can do that.

And it’s really simple…

WALK.

I love taking walks.  And there are tremendous benefits to doing something our bodies are designed to do.

One of the things I can still get behind from the CDC is that we should walk 10,000 steps each day.  It’s about 5 miles for most of us, and seems to be a nice, neat number we can all wrap our brains around.

Not walking enough can be a big factor in how our weight creeps up over the years.  Being shackled to a desk all day can make it a little challenging.

In a second, I’ll give you some details, but the big picture why we should walk more is: it can help you lose weight and be healthier.

Smaller picture, here are three reasons walking will always be important:

  1. Burns calories without exhausting you.  Each mile burns about 100 calories.  And that quickly adds up over the course of the week.
  1. It’s low impact. I see so many guys default to jogging because that’s all they know, but it’s really not great for your joints.  And on a personal note, I can’t stand jogging.
  1. Relieves stress.  Put in your headphones, listen some jams or a fun podcast, and your worries melt away.  Just like Frank Costanza says, “Serenity now.”

Walking is super-simple and enjoyable.  So it’s a great place to dip your toe into the get-into-shape pool.

You’ve got this.
